-FORT STATLER- A stockade fort, situated on Dunkard Creek, now in Clay District, Monongalia County. It was erected about 1770 by John Statler (sometimes called Stradler). This fort, like many others in West Virginia at that period, was the scene of bloody tragedies.
The truth is it was John's brother Jacob Statler that lost his life in the Indian attack 1 July 1778. Jacob is in the Price Memorial Center near Olive Church, Monongalia County, West Virginia.
John married Eve Bryerly after the death of her first husband Tobias Thorn.
John also had a daughter Christina Statler who married Adam Brown 1784 in Monongalia Co.,West Virginia

John is my 3rd Great Grand Uncle
