Aug. 30, 1938 – June 6, 2008

Richard Thomas Batten, 69, of Bryan passed away at his home on Friday. Visitation will be Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Trevino-Smith Funeral Home in Bryan. Funeral service will be Monday 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Mike Williams and Rev. Eldon Alfred officiating. Interment will follow at Bickham Cemetery in Tabor.

Richard was born in Bryan to John H. and Mina Klein Batten. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and horses.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one sister.

Survivors include his loving wife, Madlyn Batten of Bryan; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Debbie Batten of Tabor; daughter, Jodi Avery and Faron Helvy of Anderson; brothers, J.R. Batten and Ralph Batten both of Franklin; sister and brother-in-law, Nelda and Bud Bishop; two grandchildren, Brady Batten of Tabor and Kolby Avery of Anderson; and special friends, Barbara Hein, Joe Bonifazi and Dorothy Rheel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley 502 W. 26th Street, Bryan, TX 77803.
