Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company E, 164th New York Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on June 17, 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia. His citation reads "Rescued a wounded comrade who lay exposed to the enemy's fire, receiving a severe wound in the effort."
