Rites for Howard Allanson, 75, Held at Laguna Beach, Calif.
------------
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 18, at the Sheffer Laguna Beach Mortuary Chapen, Laguna Beach, Calif., for Howard D. Allanson, 75, former Anita man.
Masonic rites were held and interment was at the Melrose Abbey Memorial Park, Anaheim, Calif.
Howard Davis Allanson, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Allanson, was born Oct. 29, 1893, at Anita, and passed away Sunday, June 15, at the family home in Laguna Beach, were he had been a resident 42 years. Mr. Allanson, pioneer Laguna Beach police officer, served on the Art Colony force for 39 years. Capt. Allanson joined the department in 1939 when it had but two officers, rose through the ranks to captain as the department grew.
Perhaps one of the finest tributes to the veteran peace officer came from his former colleague, George Pletts, identification officer:
"He just seemed to know people. He seemed to have knack for getting along with everyone. Why, even the people arrested liked him." Capt. Allanson retired from Laguna department in 1958. While on the force, he had served under five different police chiefs.
Mr. Allanson was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge No. 380 for 49 years.
He is survived by his wife, the former Pearl Cypert of Anita, a son, Al A. Allanson of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Edward E. of Houston, Tex., and Eugene of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Harry (Ruth) Cogswell and Miss Mildred Allanson of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Leland (Maurine) Clifford of Farmington, Mich.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George.
The Allanson's home address is 385 Locust St., Laguna Beach, Calif.
