Nancy F. Butler
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2011

Nancy F. Butler, 74, Flower Ave. W., passed away peacefully with her family at her side Sunday morning, November 27, 2011.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Wednesday, November 30, from 4 - 7PM. A prayer service will be at the funeral home on Thursday, December 1, at 9:15AM followed by the funeral mass at St. Patrick's Church at 10AM with Rev. Donald Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Butler was born in Watertown on June 22, 1937, daughter of Robert and Kathleen Murrock Flynn. She graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy in 1955.

On June 13, 1959 she married Joseph M. Butler at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Benoit C. Dostie officiating.

From 1955 - 1963 she worked as a telephone operator and service representative for NY Telephone. She then worked as a secretary in the Biology Dept. at Purdue University from 1963 - 1965, working under Earl Butz, who later became Secretary of Agriculture. From 1989 - 1995 she was a real estate agent for Hopkins Homes.

Nancy enjoyed immensely the opportunity to be an at-home spouse dedicated to raising her two sons. She performed her role as mother and wife in an exemplary manner. Taking care of her family gave her great fulfillment and was her true purpose in life. Her great sense of humor could truly enhance family experiences with an "academy award performance". She enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture and antiques, and her love of travel took her to many places, including Hawaii, Austria, Ireland, Puerto Rico, and Higgins Beach, ME. She and her husband, Joe, spent winters in St. Augustine, FL. She was also a communicant of St. Patrick's Church.

Besides her husband, Joseph, she is survived by her two sons and their families, Joseph M. and Sandie J. Butler, Jr., and their daughters, Allyson Jane and Margaret "Maggie" Rose, of Watertown and Robert F. and Lori A. Butler, and their daughters, Ella Nora and Addie Flynn, all of Wilmington, NC; her two sisters, Shirley Coughlin, Fayetteville and Cynthia Flynn, NC; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Donations in her name may be made to St. Patrick's Church, 123 S. Massey St., Hospice of Jefferson County, 425 Washington St., or Sacred Heart Foundation, 668 Thompson St., all in Watertown, NY 13601.
