Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Captain in the Union Army in Company B, 1st Maine Veteran Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on April 2, 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia. His citation reads "With six men, captured 69 Confederate prisoners and recaptured several soldiers who had fallen into the enemy's hands."
