Funeral services were conducted Tuesday from the Baptist Church for A.G. Heriford, senior member of the contracting firm of Heriford and Heriford. He passed away Friday at this home following several months of lingering illness.
Arthur G. Heriford was born on August 2, 1880 to James and Dorothy Heriford at Princeton, Missouri. He grew up at the family farm and attended a local country rural school, later being associated with his father in farming.
On January 13, 1900 he married Miss Laura M. Wilks. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Del Norte three years ago.
The young couple engaged in farming in Missouri until 1916, when they moved to Baca County, near Springfield, Colorado where he engaged in farming and carpenter work. In 1935 they moved to Del Norte and Mr. Heriford followed the carpenter and contracting trades until his illness.
Mr. Heriford had many friends in the community. He was a kindly man, industrious, and a skilled tradesman in his chosen line. He kept active even after failing health slowed him down.
He is survived by his widow, two sons, James M., of Grants Pass, Oregon and Del, of Del Norte; two daughters, Mrs. Russell Martin, of Springfield and Mrs. Ted A. Dickey, of here; one brother, Isaac, of Meadville, Missouri; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Hickman and Mrs. Martin Culbertson, of Trenton, Missouri, and Mrs. Minnie Constable of Pollack, Missouri; 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. One daughter, Mrs. Jessie Sharp, is deceased.
Rev. Herbert Dinsmore officiated at the rites Tuesday. Pallbearers were C.D. Voris, Roy Wells, Floyd Welsh, Paul Davil, Guy Treadway and Robert Still.
