SHREVEPORT, LA - James E. Henderson, age 94, died November 15, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Arrangements are under the direction of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd., Shreveport, LA. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, November 18. Services will be in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, with interment following in Centuries Memorial Park. Rev. Steve Caraway of Mangum Methodist Church will officiate assisted by Dr. Theresa McConnell.

Jim was born in Keithville, LA on October 21, 1917, to C.F. and Gladys Dunn Henderson. He attended public schools in Shreveport and worked for the post office from 1945, until retiring in 1976. Jim was the manager of the Post Office Employees Credit Union and was dedicated to the building of the Post Office Employees present building. He was a member of the American Postal Clerks Union, American Legion, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Masonic Lodge #436, Fair Park Alumni Group, and the Parents Sunday School Class. Jim was also a very proud American and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, who will honor him at the graveside service.

Jim was predeceased by his parents; his son, James E. Henderson, Jr.; and brother, John Henderson and wife, Maureen; and 1997 he lost the love of his life, his wife of over 50 years, Henrietta Henderson. He is survived by his best friend, his wife of 11 years, Lola Caldwell Henderson; daughter, Virginia Sue Cloud (Kevin); granddaughters; Molly Maranto (Dr. Will), Amy Henderson, Sarah Cloud and Mary Cloud; daughter-in-law, Kay Henderson; great-grandchildren, Ben and James Maranto; nieces, Barbara Carner (Vern) and Dorothy Hamlin (Ron); and many relatives whom he loved and they loved him dearly.

Jim loved to dance and he and Henrietta would have the floor all to themselves as other dancers would stop dancing just to watch them. He was a member of Mangum Methodist Church since 1923. He placed God first, family second and country third. Jim entered service for his country on December 5, 1940, serving with the United States First Army, European Theatre and was discharged on July 15, 1945.

Pallbearers are Earle Valentine, Jacob, Jonathan and Joshua Sawyer, Spencer McCoy and Sean McCoy. Honorary pallbearers are David Hanson, Conrad Neal, Charles Dean, members of the Wednesday Morning Domino Group, the Parents Class, and many friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. P.V. Blanchard, his staff, and employees of WK Hospice group, who are the most compassionate people we have ever met. We love you all for the love you gave Jim and his faithful dog, Charlie. GOD BE WITH YOU.
