First married William McIntyre Danner May 18, 1969; after their divorce in 1970, she married Robert Eugene Opp,Sr in 1972.

She was the daughter of Elmer A. Pursell and Maxine (Tucker) Pursell.


Betty Sue Opp, age 53, of Pinckneyville, passed away early Saturday morning, May 3, 2003, as a result of an automobile accident on State Highway 127 south of the Todd's Mill Road, north of Pinckneyville.

Betty was born in Pinckneyville on July 6, 1949, the daughter of Elmer A. and Maxine (Tucker) Pursell. She married Robert E. Opp on March 25, 1972 in Pinckneyville and he survives. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville. She was employed by the Pinckneyville Community Hospital as a Physical Therapist Assistant. She also worked part-time for the Perry County Health Department. Betty was an avid fan of Cardinal Baseball and other sporting events. She loved her grandchildren and was a supporter of the Pinckneyville Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary.

Survivors include her mother, Maxine Pursell of Pinckneyville; husband, Robert 'Bob' Opp Sr. of Pinckneyville; two sons, Robert 'Rob' Opp and wife Michel of Ava and Nathaniel Opp and wife Sarah of Pinckneyville; one daughter, Heather Opp and fianc/ Chuck Richelman of Pinckneyville; two brothers, Donald Pursell and wife Connie of Adams, Nebraska and Jim Pursell and wife Janet of Herrin; two sisters-in-law, Jo Reese Pursell of Lincoln, Nebraska and Barb Jenkel and husband Mike of Pinckneyville and three grandchildren, Kearsten Opp, Tyrin Opp and Melina Opp. Betty was preceded in death by her father, Elmer A. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville on Wednesday, May 7 at 11 a.m. with Brother Mark Lee officiating. Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Pinckneyville.

Visitation was held at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Tuesday, May 6 from 5 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday from 8 until 9:30 a.m. then at the church from 10 a.m. until services.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cardinal's Care Organization or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
