Pattie Garrett Clark, 50, a lifelong resident of the Tawzerville Community, died at 8:46 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2006, at her residence after a brief illness.
A private family viewing will be held in advance of visitation. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Bro. Brad Baker will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in Tifton. The family will receive visitors at the home of David and Paula Clark in the West Berrien Community.
Pallbearers will be Lawton Bassett, Jerry Brooks, David F. Clark, Dwayne Clark, Dr. William King, Bob Reinhardt, Carl Tawzer and Coy Tawzer.

Born Jan. 25, 1956, in Tifton, Mrs. Clark was the daughter of John Garrett and Gladys Arnold Garrett, both deceased. She is survived by her husband of eight years, David Shawn Clark (the couple married on June 20, 1998); a sister and brother-in-law Jean and Kirby Pickus of California, and two nephews Kyle Pickus and Garrett Pickus also of California.
In addition, she also leaves behind her father and mother-in-law, David F. and Paula Clark of West Berrien, three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Paul and Renee Borboa of Okinawa, Japan, Dwayne and Ginger Clark of Moultrie, and Logan Clark of West Berrien; and two nieces and nephew-in-law, Rebecca and Thomas Richter of Panama City, Fla., and Savannah Clark of Moultrie; and a great niece, Hannah Rose Richter of Panama City.
She was a dedicated nursing educator for 26 years and a former chair of the Division of Nursing at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. During her three-year tenure as chair of the Nursing Division, the program maintained a 100 percent student pass rate on the Georgia Board of Nursing exams, a feat that has not been repeated since she stepped down. She was employed part time as a KAPLAN Nursing Review instructor and was a contributing editor to several nursing textbooks.
Mrs. Clark was instrumental in establishing the Hospice of Tiftarea organization in 1985 and served as a guest lecturer volunteering her time to train new Hospice nurses and volunteers. She was enrolled in the nursing doctoral program at the Medical College of Georgia and was working on her doctoral dissertation at the time of her death having already completed all of the course work required. Mrs. Clark was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society and the National League of Nursing. She received the ABAC Excellence in Advising Award in 2003, was named to Who?s Who Among American Teachers in 2000, and received the ABAC Alumni Association Outstanding Health Care Professional Award in 1998.
In addition, she received the Marilyn Chew Lunn Cancer Research Award from the Medical College of Georgia in 1996. She loved her profession and was devoted to her students, challenging them to work hard, conduct themselves professionally and achieve their dreams of becoming registered nurses. She took great comfort from the fact that many of the nurses who cared for her during her illness were her former students.
When she won the ABAC Advising Award, the quote from an advisee accompanying the award stated, ?My advisor has always made herself available to advise her students on academic issues as well as career development and student life issues. She accomplishes her advisory role in a very personal, supportive, and caring manner and with a great sense of humor. She is more than a teacher and an advisor, she is a student?s friend and a shining example of the spirit of ABAC.?
She was devoted to her family and friends and deeply loved her five dogs, Buttons and Bows, Cuddles, Sparky, Little Man and Bo. Her hobbies included cooking, vegetable gardening, visiting nursing home residents and going camping with her husband. Mrs. Clark was a member of the Baptist faith.
