LEBANON, Va. - Emma Janie Brooks, 71, a wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend,
went to be with the Lord, her best friend, on Thursday, June 26, 2008. Born March 14,
1937, in Russell County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Dewey Howard Chafin and
the late Minnie Lee Robins Chafin. In addition to her mother and father, she was also
preceded in death by her husband, Russell Brooks; son, Richard Karl Miller; brother,
Dewey Chafin; and son-in-law, Darrell J. Kiser.
She is survived by five children, June Kiser of Lebanon, Kurt Eric Miller and wife Betty Ann
of Charlottesvllle, Va., Kelvin Kliest Miller of Castlewood, Elizabeth Young and husband
Barry of Castlewood, and Rebecca Treaster and husband Greg of Abingdon, Va.; five
sisters, Elizabeth Clark, Mildred White, Dorothy Ferguson and husband Carter, Betty
Kegley and Peggy Kiser; two brothers, Jackie Chafin and Johnny Chafin and wife Nancy;
grandchildren, David Miller, Sarah Miller, Samantha Miller, Jessica Grizzle, Brittany
Grizzle, Kacye Keith, Abigail Young and Mackenzie Miller; two great-granddaughters; two
great-grandsons, Isaac and Cedrlc; two great-grandchildren on the way and special
friends, Johnny Jessee, Taulbee Jessee and Johnny Jessee Jr.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 30, at Owens Funeral Service
Chapel with the Rev. Scott Suttle officiating. Interment will follow at Ketron Memorial
Gardens in Lebanon.
The family will receive friends on Sunday after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
