Thank you to all who visit Shep.

I remember in the fall of 2000 when you came running up to Buddy, the Bassethound and me on our walk. You did scare me but you seemed so friendly. You followed along behind us at a distance as we continued our walk. We took a break and then you did also. I tossed you a treat and you followed us home. I tried to run you off and I looked out on the carport that night and there you lay asleep. The wife made the decision the next day to keep you and named you Shep.

It was a great decision as you and Buddy got along and you became a family dog to us. Even though you looked mean you were as gentle as could be. Our grandbaby loved to touch your head.

Our daily walks with Buddy to the river were the best thing for me. You would always go into the river no matter how cold it was. You always liked to lay on your back and get your chest rubbed. You were the best mole and rat killer I have ever saw. Buddy passed but we continued our walks all over the area. I know people will stop and ask about you when they see me without you.

I believe you knew yesterday that it would be our last walk together. You took off like a pup and kept wanting to go farther like we used to do. I believe it was your way of saying Goodbye to me.

When you got sick a couple months ago I knew our time would be short. Dr. Hemstreet helped give me a little more time with you but today I could see that you were suffering so and he relieved all your pain.

You were a great friend. I along with the family will really miss you. I cried today as I said goodbye but I know you will always be in my heart.
