Fred C. Burlingame of Smethport has received word of the death of his nephew, Pfc. Philip Creighton Burlingame, Jr., aged 24 years.
Pvt. Burlingame, who had been overseas, had been hospitalized in England for six weeks and was flown in a hospital plane to Ft. Devens, Mass., where he underwent surgery. He died on October 6.
The deceased is survived by his mother who lives in Buffalo and three sisters, Ruth and Alice Burlingame also of Buffalo and Mrs. Athol Burgess of Medina.
Burial was made in the family plot in Medina on Monday.
Pvt. Burlingame's mother (Bernice Burlingame Heckman) was the former Miss Bernice Jackson of Medina and she had visited in Smethport.
His father was Philip Creighton Burlingame, a former Smethport resident.
