Sorority Founder. Fitzgerald founded the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Started at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia, it was the world's first secret society for women. Throughout the rest of her life, she was known as "Mother Fitzgerald" by members of the sorority worldwide.

Mrs Fitzgerald died in Fort Worth Texas where she had been living with her niece, Mrs Roberta Flournoy Andrews. Her body was held in a vault in the chapel of Oakwood Cemetery until 1933 when she was brought to Macon for interment.
