Lula was the 5th of 6 children born to William "Samuel" Pound and Mary Alice St. Clair, and the 4th of 5 daughters. She received a teaching certificate from a "Normal" school, taught for just a short time, and then married Clinton, who was 4 and a half years her junior. Clinton was a Baptist preacher, and together they had 3 children. Clinton joined the Chaplain corps of the US Navy in 1918, and they began to travel to different duty stations, including San Diego, Washington DC, Honolulu, HI, and the Virgin Islands. Upon retirement, they settled in Southern California where Clinton became the first school chaplain at USC. They were married for 57 years.
A prolific knitter, Lula would spend hours knitting "ACE" bandages to send to a Normal School chum who was a missionary in South America. This friendship lasted into her 70s. She was a reserved woman, not given to smiling, and expected her grandchildren to be seen and not heard for the most part (at least in my memory). The granddaughters would often received crocheted covered hangers for Christmas, while the grandsons got handkerchiefs with their initials embroidered on them. However, she also spent countless hours crocheting fine lace tablecloths, which some of her elder grandchildren received over time.

Gravesite Details
Both Clinton and Lula were cremated and interred at Arlington National Cemetery. Because they had a son Clinton Andrew Neyman Jr. who is also buried at Arlington, locating this grave is sometimes tricky as you get misdirected to Jr's gravestone.
