ESCONDIDO -- Carl Palmer passed away peacefully Sunday, September 25, 2011 in Escondido, Calif. Carl was born on June 11, 1918 in Grand Rapids, Mich., and graduated from Ottawa Hills High School there in 1936. He had two sisters, Loraine and Patricia. Carl served in the Navy for the duration of World War II in the South Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Lassen and later the S.S. Santa Rita as Chief Storekeeper. He made his career in office equipment sales and leasing in Los Angeles, Calif. He eventually founded Spacemakers Unlimited, a broker and designer of office partitioning solutions. Carl married Claire Estelle Engstrom in 1947. They lived in Arcadia, Calif., for 40 years, raising a family of four children. They retired to Sun City, Calif. and later moved to Escondido, Calif. Claire passed away in 2010 after 63 years of marriage. Carl and Claire loved golf, sailing, cruising and competing in country western dancing. Carl is survived by four children, Steven of Escondido, Calif., Keith of Glenns Ferry, Idaho, Carol of Collierville, Tenn., and Kenneth of Los Angeles, Calif. He also had seven grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. Services were held Saturday, October 8 at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with military honors.
