He married Sarah Kimball on Nov 24,1658 at Ipswich, MA.

He is said to have come to America (Ipswich,Mass 1658 or 1659) just before the Restoration of Charles II in England, having been a soldier in England under Cromwell in the 1650s.

On October 30, 1678, Edward was granted 60 acres in Suffield. His three older sons were granted 40 acreas each by the committee charged with the settling of Suffield. In spite of this grant, Edward and his son, John, took an oath of allegience to the town of Ipswich on December 11, 1678. The family remained in Ipswich until the spring of 1680, but they moved to Suffield shortly thereafter. Edward was referred to as Corporal when he was chosen a selectman in Suffield on March 7, 1693.

EDWARD, Ipswich, ace. a very doubtful tradition. came from Scotland, 1636, m. a Kimball, and had, as runs the same story, fifteen sons. and three daughterss. That account. was given. by Hon. Samuel C. Allen to Farmer.

In the Hist. of Hubbard, whom. was his neighbour. the burning. of his barn by lightning, 1670, is mentioned. With w. Sarah, wh. d. 12 June 1696, he rem. to Suffield, having had nine children. and there had one, b. 1683; and another in. 1685. Of seven sons. the names are told, but without dates, exc. John, who it is said to have been b. about. 1660, and was killed. by the Indian raid .

11 May 1704 at Deerfield, where he had been living. from 1685; Edward, who was also living at Deerfield. there d. 1740, leaving. a family. William, who. died. at Suffield, 1702; Benjamin, the anc. of Hon. Samuel C. had Joseph, wh. sett. at Deerfield; David, and Samuel, both, it is said, went to N. J. and Caleb, b. 31 Mar. 1685, prob. the youngest.of the Four daughters. too are named. Sarah, wh. m. 21 Apr. 1685, Edward Smith; Martha, wh. m. Samuel Kent, jr.; Abigail, m. Timothy Palmer; and Mary, of whom nothing is told.
