Also served as Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky from 1935 to 1939, Secretary of the Kentucky Democratic Party in 1937, Member of the Democratic National Committee from Kentucky from 1940 to 1948, Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Kentucky in 1944, 1948, and 1952, and Democratic Candidate for United States Senator from Kentucky in 1960.
