E. A. Allen Sr., 80, died at his home in Ava Sunday following an illness of five years.
He was born in Elco in 1875, and had lived in Ava 18 years. He was a retired section foreman for the GMO Railroad.
Allen was married in 1923 to Ethel Monteith, who survives. He also leaves sons Leo and E. A. Jr., both of Baraboo, Wisc., Lester of Ava, and Franklin, James and Robert, all at home, daughters Mrs. Violet Derossett of Wolf Lake and Mrs. Eva Egbert of Murphysboro, and a daughter by a former marriage, Mrs. Pearl Rench of Devil's Elbow, Mo.; nine grandchildren; brothers John of California, Henry of Dongola and Joseph of Elco.
Friends may call at the Wilson Funeral Home in Ava until services Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist church in Ava, the Rev. H. G. Knaub officiating. Burial will be in the Ava Evergreen Cemetery.
