Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a First Lieutenant in Company B. 4th New York Volunteer Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery in action while a First Sergeant on August 15, 1864 at Front Royal, Virginia. His citation reads "Capture of flag of 3d Virginia Infantry (C.S.A.)."
