Gilbert Priest, who gives DOB as 1839 in N.C., has a CSA pension application on line in the virtual vault. He says he enlisted in 1861 in Bainbridge, GA with Co. H of the 5th GA and re-enlisted in 1862 with Co A of the 2nd GA. Infantry. He served until his unit surrendered in Goldsboro, N.C. in April 1865. James S. Sheppard was in the same unit and was his witness. His death certificate is also on line in the vault and it gives his father as Christopher Priest, Wife as Mary Ann Priest and mother unknown. Mrs. Mary Ann Strickland Priest also has a pesnion application on line. She says he served in Co. H of the 5th GA and died in 1919. Proof of their marriage in Decatur County on 9 Nov. 1866 is included as well as proof of her death in Jan 1923.
