He served in the U.S. Navy. He was owner and operator of A&S Truck Stop for many years, and then East Fulton Gun & Bait Shop until retirement. He enjoyed showing and restoring antique cars. He enjoyed meeting with his friends at the coffee shop and especially spending time with his grandson.
Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include one son, Jim Dodson (Angela); two sisters, Bonnie Finney (Paul) of Verona and Tomi Rea Shumpert of Dorsey; and one grandson, Noah Dodson.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Karl Dodson and Cleatus Dodson; one brother-in-law, Elwood Shumpert; and his parents.
Pallbearers will be Derek Shumpert, Ken Finney, Kirk Finney, Shane Turner, Noah Dodson and Jim Dodson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Finney, Jim Naden, Tillman Steele and Harold Kennedy.
