MARILYN JOY AGGEN, 83, of 526 E. High Street, Morrison, IL, died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Four Seasons Living Center in Morrison.

Marilyn was born August 30, 1925, in Prophetstown, IL, to Norman and Mildred (Ackeberg) Swanson. She was educated in the Prophetstown schools, graduating from Prophetstown High School in 1942. She attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, and the American Institute of Commerce in Davemport, IA. She married James Alvin Aggen on October 12, 1952 in Prophetstown. He died January 17, 1998. She was first employed by the Eclipse Lawn Mower Company in Prophetstown. She then worked for Commonwealth Edison in Prophetstown, and also as a substitute secretary at the former Union Grove School in rural Morrison. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morrison, where she served as an elder, a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. Marilyn was active on many church committees, was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association, and also sang in the church choir. She was a Girl Scout Leader, was the leader of the Cottonwood 4-H Club, was active in the Whiteside County Farm Bureau and served as vice-president of the Rural Youth. She was active in many community organizations and served with the Odell Library Board of Directors and the Morrison Community Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Marilyn especially enjoyed singing and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Marna (Michael) Geerts of Morrison, IL, two sons, Tom (Janeen) Aggen of Lenexa, KS and Tim Aggen of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren, Manda (John) Davis and Jeremy (Sara) Geerts; Emily (Rob) Cannon, Alexis (Jason) Bergman, Adrienne and Alex Aggen; four great grandchildren, Tommy and Jonathon Cannon; Caitlyn and Benjamin Bergman; two sisters, Mrs. Joann Brubaker of Quincy, IL and Beth (Frank) Benson of DesPlaines, IL; one brother, Roland (Mary) Swanson of Albuquerque, NM.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; three granddaughters, in infancy; one brother, Duane Swanson.
