Lucille Ellen (Hadley) Allen, 82, joined her Savior the morning of Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Lucille died comfortably in her own bed at her home on Walnut Street in Sandpoint, ID. Memorial services celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Smith officiating.

Lucille was born at the family home in Sandpoint located at 212 N. Boyer, the 5th of 6 children born to William Ralph and Ethel Alberta (Garrison) Hadley on August 21, 1928. She attended Farmin Grade School and was among the 92 graduates of Sandpoint High School in 1946.

Lucille met her future husband, Sgt. Robert E. Allen, at the local roller skating rink. Bob had come to Sandpoint to visit his family after serving as a Marine in the South Pacific during WW II. Wedding bells rang for them on September 14, 1946. The young couple immediately moved to Grass Valley, CA but returned to Lucille's beloved Sandpoint in less than a year. Bob and Lucille enjoyed 61 years of marriage until Bob's death in October 2007. Their union was blessed with three children; Debbie born in 1952, Kathy born in 1958 and Bobby born in 1960.

Lucille's bright smile and cheerful disposition greeted customers for decades in downtown Sandpoint where she worked in retail at JC Penney's, Anthony's and Austin's Drugstore. She retired in 1993. She provided civic leadership and guidance as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Farmin PTA member. Lucille was also very proud to be a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi where she held every office imaginable and diligently deep-fried thousands of ‘Elephant Ears' at the Bonner County Fair!

Among her many hobbies, Lucille enjoyed stamping, stained-glass, sewing and needlework. However, gardening was her passion and she will always be remembered for her lovely roses.

She is survived by her daughter Kathy and husband Ken Conger of Sandpoint, son Robert (Peggy Jo) Allen of Sandpoint, 2 grandchildren Blair Eveland and Ashley Allen, sister Margaret Stevens of Sandpoint, brother Glenn (Donna) Hadley of Plains, MT, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, daughter Debbie Eveland, two brothers Raymond and Duane Hadley, and one sister Eileen Baldwin.

In 2004 Lucille was diagnosed with Corticol Basal Ganglionic Degeneration. As the disease progressed she required more and more care until she was totally dependent upon others. Through this long and arduous struggle Lucille exhibited grace, strength, tremendous courage and dignity. The family would like to take this time to thank all the devoted care-givers who provided her with compassionate and loving care. But our greatest appreciation and gratitude goes out to Mom's most loyal and faithful care-giver, her daughter-in-law, Peggy Jo Allen.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to Bonner Community Hospice, PO Box 1448, Sandpoint, ID 83864 or Beta Sigma Phi Memorial Scholarship Fund, 431 S. Huron St. Sandpoint, ID 83864.
