U.S. Congressman. He attended Bay Path Institute, graduated from Boston College Law School, was a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, (1934-40) and was register of deeds for Hampden County, (1941-42). During World War II, he served in the United States Army, (1942-46). After the war, he was again register of deeds for Hampden County, (1946-52) and was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-third Congress and to the next seventeen succeeding, serving (1953-89). After leaving Congress, he lived in retirement until his death at age 90.
