Roman Catholic Archbishop. Beovic served as Archbishop of Adelaide from December 11, 1939 until his retirement on May 1, 1971. The son of a Croatian migrant, he graduated from the Propaganda Fide College and was ordained to the priesthood on December 23, 1922. Consecrated Archbishop of Adelaide on April 7, 1940, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for his services to migrants in 1962. A man of deep personal piety, he guided his diocese through numerous Church reforms, and faced the challenges arising from the political and social changes of the period. Beovich died at Calvary Hospital in North Adelaide, after a blood clot developed in his leg.
