EXIE VERA FENTON
Exie Vera Fenton, youngest daughter of Charles and Viola Mosley Hammond, was born June 23, 1903 in Monroe County and departed from this life on Sunday, Feb. 1, 1987 at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 8 days at the St. Joseph Hospital where she had been a patient since Jan. 12.
She was united in marriage to Earl O. Fenton on Jan. 14, 1922. Their home was blessed with two sons, Dwight of Mystic and Jerald of Melrose.
Exie was saved and baptized at an early age and was a long time member of the Brushy Chariton River Baptist Church.
She was a 29 year member of the Eastern Star Chapter at Mystic.
Exie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, five sisters and four brothers.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her son Dwight and wife Ethel and other son, Jerald and wife Wanda. Six grandchildren, Patty and husband Delbert King of Urbandale, Sandra and husband Ronnie Marshall of Ottumwaa, Earl R. Fenton of Mystic, Stephen and wife Marcia of Chariton, Connie and husband Rick McKinley of Russell, Carol and husband Eric Ziel of Boone, Also eight great grandchildren
Travis and Erin King, Adam and Abram Marshall, Eric and Jason Fenton, Susan McKinley and Erica Ziel. One brother, Donald Hammond and wife Mabel of Ottumwa, one sister-in-law Mabel G. Hammond of Ottumwa. Several nieces and nephews, other relatives, many friends and neighbors.
Exie was a kind and loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Eastern Star services were held Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. during visitation. Funeral services were held Friday, Deb. 4, 1987 at 10:30 a.m. at the Duley Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Phil Griffith officiating. Hymns "He Touched Me" and "how Great Thou Art" were sun by Marvin and Jewell Wright with Rita Kirby organist.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Stephen Fenton, Delbert King, Rick McKinley, Eric Ziel, Ronnie Marshall and Earl R. Fenton.
Final resting place is at the Brushy Cemetery north of Plano.
