Margaret W. Kane (1846-1912) Burke. She was a migrant from Ireland to the United States around 1865. Her husband worked as a milk dealer in Jersey City, New Jersey. She died in 1912 of "cardiac dilatation" in Morton, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. (b. March 15, 1846; Ireland - d. June 11, 1912; Morton, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, USA)

Parents:
John Kane of Ireland. On May 17, 2023 the possibility that her mother was "Ellen Burnes" was suggested by Ancestry Thrulines, using DNA and the tree created by the DNA match. When Margaret W. Kane died, the death certificate listed her mother as "unknown". If this is correct she now has known siblings.

Birth:
Margaret was born in March of 1846 to John Kane in Ireland. It is not known where in Ireland she was born, but her husband was born in County Sligo, Ireland and she may have come from the same county. The date "March 1846" comes from the 1900 United States census. Her death certificate listed her birth as "March 15, 1832". March 15, 1846 is a composite of the two, the document closest in time to the event is usually the most accurate. Civil registration of births and deaths were not recorded in Ireland until 1864. The only record of his birth would be in a parish register. There is a Margaret Kane who was baptized in Clonakilty parish in the diocese of Cork and Ross in County Cork on 23 March 1848 and the parents were John Kane and Mary Crowly. There is a Margaret Kane from St. Patrick's parish in Limerick baptized on 8 April 1845 and the parents were John Kane and Bridget Casey.

Emigration:
She emigrated to the United States around 1865. She does not appear in the 1865 New Jersey census.

Marriage:
In 1868 she married William Burke (1845-1919).

Children:
Together they had at least two children: John Joseph Burke (1868-1939) who married Nora M. Finn (1866-1898) and after her death married Josephine Smith (1875-1962); and Mary Ellen Burke (1870-1957) who married Richard B. Patterson II (1869-1930).

Jersey City, New Jersey:
Margaret's husband, William operated a milk dealership from his home at 26 Atlantic Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey. Her son, John, married Nora M. Finn around 1889 and she gave birth to her only child: Mary Margaret Burke (1890-1949). In 1898 Nora died of pneumonia and Mary was raised by Nora's sister: Catherine Elizabeth Finn (1863-1918) aka Kate Finn. In 1899 John married Josephine Smith (1875-1962) and they had five children together. John had trouble earning enough money to support his children so the girls were raised by his sister: Mary Ellen Burke. Mary Ellen Burke was a stepmother to two children: Leona Veronica Patterson and John Patterson.

Delaware County, Pennsylvania:
By 1910, Margaret and her husband William, retired to Delaware County, Pennsylvania and lived with their daughter: Mary Ellen Burke aka Mammie Burke; and her husband, Richard B. Patterson II.

Death:
Margaret died on June 12, 1912 of "cardiac dilatation".

She was buried in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Yeadon with: her husband; their daughter, Mary Ellen Burke (1870-1957) aka Mamie Burke; Mary's husband, Richard B. Patterson II (1864-1930); granddaughter, Bertha M. Burke (1902-1971); and granddaughter, Josephine Veronica Burke (1907-1995) aka Mae Burke.
