Alfa Lou Moore was one of 4 children born to William Dee Moore and Estelle Clemmie "Stella" Smith. Wanda Rue Moore 1922 – 2010 ; Annelle "Nell" Moore 1931 – 1997 ; Warren Dee "Sonny" Moore 1936 – 1998.
She was born and raised in rural Lometa, then later in town at Lometa, Lampasas Co., Texas. Her family all called her "Cokie", which was a nickname given to her by her little sister, Annelle when she was small, as she couldn't say Alfa. Makes no sense, but it stuck for all her life. Family called her "Cokie", friends called her Lou.
She married Leonard Duncan on June 3, 1942. They had 3 children: Lynda Lou "Lyn" Duncan; Douglas Gerald "Doug" Duncan; Stacey Michelle "Mich" Duncan; 2 grandchildren: Matt Meinke and wife, Amy Toole of Commerce, Tx.; Meghan Michelle Smith and husband Chris Leach of Illinois; and 4 gr-grandchildren, Tristin, Cheyenne Lou, Kaden, and Devin Leach.
Lou completed Grades 1-12 at the Lometa School, Lometa, Lampasas County, Texas.
They lived their married life in Grand Prairie, Texas, after Leonard returned from his Air Force service. While Leonard was in the service, Alfa Lou lived with her parents and siblings in Lometa. Lynda was born while living with her family, so she had lots help with her baby. Lou and Leonard lived to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
Lou was a homemaker during her marriage, but worked at the Five and Dime store in Lometa after graduation. After her children were older, she kept children in her home, then later after her children were grown and gone from home, she worked at several retail stores, the Dallas Auto Auction, & the Grand Prairie Golf Course cafe, and two department stores as a sales clerk. She loved to visit and be with her family, and play games with family and friends. She always put her family first. She was a wonderful cook and housekeeper, and loved shopping!
She also loved dancing, and she and Dad would go dancing in Lometa with the family on holidays at the Lometa VFW Hall also used as a skating rink. In later years, she and dad would go dancing with their best friends, and the "gang" of friends that got together for parties about once a month - usually a theme was involved, like a luau, Halloween, celebrities night, etc. The little group of friends in Grand Prairie had great fun.
Alfa Lou died due to Cancer and Strokes, in The Arlington Hospital, Arlington, Tarrant Co., Texas. Her request was to be cremated and have her ashes strewn on her mom and dad's old homeplace where so many wonderful family times were had. (That home was in Lometa, Texas, just East of the school house, but the old home has been torn down now. The land remains in the family)
