On April 2, 1850, Abigail was married to Joseph R. Ellis at West Bolton, Vermont. Joseph was born July 19, 1828 at Hyde Park, Lamoille County, Vermont. He died December 22, 1890, on his farm in Maple Grove Township, Barron County, Wisconsin, aged 62 years, 5 months, and 3 days and was buried in Lakeview Cemetery. His military style gravestone is inscribed "Capt. J.R. Ellis Co. K. 36 Wis. Inf."
