Dick Carey (sometimes known as Richard) was born about 1846 in Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, son of Mike and Nancy (Tucker) Carey. He married Sallie Jones and they were the parents of Aaron, Clem, Jesse and Eliza. After he and Sallie divorced, he married Jennie Thompson. Through that marriage, he became the step-father of Linnie, who was listed on the Final Dawes Roll as Linnie Carey.
Dick died in 1918 at the age of 71 and was buried in the Lost City Cemetery in Cherokee County, Oklahoma.
