Gertrude H. McKinney, age 97, of Smackover, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital in Ruston, LA.

She was born April 16, 1904, in Drew County, a daughter of the late John and Cora Mathews Halligan.

She was the owner/operator of McKinney Dry Goods and Sur-Way Grocery Store in Smackover, a member of Order of Eastern Star and the widow of D. E. "Bud" McKinney, who died June 10, 1967.

Survivors include one son, John Ed McKinney and spouse, Mary Lou, Ruston, LA; one daughter, Sue McKinney Lung, LaHabra Heights, CA; one brother, Bert Halligan, Tyler, TX; 6 grandchildren, Grayle Lung Rosen, Laura Lung, John David Lung, Martin Lung, Richard G. McKinney and Jennifer Haarala; and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Graveside services were Thursday, November 1, at McKinney Cemetery near Warren by Rev. Bob Trischmann. Arrangements were by Frazer's Funeral Home of Warren.

Pallbearers were Richard McKinney, David Halligan, Howard Halligan, Max Taylor, Hugh Reaves, Jr. and Gene Pearce.
