Melissa's obituary appeared in the 27 Feb 1923 edition of the "Daily Mining Gazette". It reads as follows: "MRS. MELISSA MORRIS DIES' 'Spent Past Six Years on Farm Near the Sturgeon River" "Mrs. Melissa Morris, 80 years of age, died Sunday noon at the home of her sons, William and Frederick Morris (sic Barringer)on a farm at the Sturgeon river five miles from Chassell. The late Mrs. Morris was born in Canada but has made her home in this country for the past 60 years. She has made her home with her sons here from lower Michigan. One brother, three daughters, Mrs. Atta (sic Etta) Stever, Mrs. Ella Kahler and Mrs. Rebecca Harrison and the two sons, William and Frederick survive. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at Chassell. Rev. Lewin officiating, and burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton."∼Wife of Silas
