Hiram Kendall was probably the son of Noah and Elizabeth (Betsey) Underwood. He served in the Civil War and is buried near Mary Kendall Woodsides, and her husband John M. Woodsides who she married in Nov. 1878.
The 1860 Census shows Hiram Kendall age 34 born in Indiana married to wife Mary age 26 born in KY with 4 children:
Luther W. 9, Elizabeth 7, Emma 5, and Ella age 2 , all born in Indiana.
His death was of mysterious circumstances as reported in the Shelbyville Republican of October 14, 1875.

There was a letter found that was supposedly written by him, but in a similar handwriting of his wife Mary. He may have been poisoned or have drunk poison himself. However, the jury verdict came to the conclusion that the poisoning was self-administered.

He was in Co. G and from Decatur County according to the muster sheet. He was discharged on Nov. 17, 1862 due to "disability".
Hiram married Mary Underwood 11 Aug 1859 in Trimble County, Kentucky. On the marriage record his birthplace is given as Decatur County, Indiana.
In the 1850 Census, he is listed in his father's (Noah) household in Decatur County.
In the 1860 Census, he and Mary are in Decatur County and listed under the surname "Kinnell". His parents appear just before him, under the surname "Kinnel".
