Daughter of Lemuel and Jennie Pettit, born in Connecticut and New York respectively. On April 23, 1877, Melissa was united in marriage to Charles Francis Bone at Barron, Barron County, Wis. He was born Feb. 20, 1844, in Erie County, Pennsylvania, son of Francis and Johanna Bone, and died April 24, 1905, at his home in Rice Lake, Barron County, Wisconsin, aged 61 years, 2 months and 5 days, and was buried there in Nora Cemetery. Their two children were Harry P. Bone, b. 28 Aug 1878 & Florence E.A. Bone, b. 18 Apr 1887.

Survivors are her son, Harry L. Bone and a daughter, Mrs. Florence Shaffer, both of Costa Mesa, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
