Murder Victim. She was abducted from her home in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, after returning home from school, in September 1996. She was found five weeks later in a creek in King George, Virginia. There were no leads in the case until May of 1997 when a hair belonging to Sofia had been found on the body of Kristin Lisk, another victim of the unknown killer. In June of 2002 a lead on a suspect finally came in from a small town in South Carolina, a 15 year old girl had been forced into a car at gunpoint and raped for 17 hours in an apartment. The girl led the police to the apartment and during a search found articles relating to the murders of Sofia and the Lisk sisters, as well as a suspect. The suspect was identified as Richard Mark Evonitz, a known pedophile. The police later got a tip on his whereabouts and chased him to Sarasota, Florida, where he committed suicide, leaving many unanswered questions. The story was featured on "America's Most Wanted" several times, as a missing persons, an unknown suspect, and then profiling Richard Mark Evonitz himself. On August 14, 2002, Evonitz was officially named by the police as the murderer in this case.
