Death of George W. Noxon, Esq.
This community were sadly surprised yesterday by the sudden death of this estimable citizen. Though in feeble health for several years, his disease, bleeding at the lungs, gave no premonitory symptoms of approaching disolution. On Wednesday he was as cheerful and active as usual, and in the evening attended a social party at his father's. At a little past 11 o'clock he was again attacked with rapid hemorrage at the lungs, and soon expired.
Our citizens are thus suddenly called to mourn the loss of one of their number, who had been reared in their midst, and who had, by his many virtues, won the respect of all his acquaintances, he commenced the practice of law, with more than ordinary prospects of success; but disease soon blighted his hopes of earthly fame and removed him to that "Bourne whence no traveler returns."
The entire community join us in expressions of sympathy for his bereaved and sorrowing friends. May He, "who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb," sustain them in this their time of trial.

A large meeting of the members of the legal profession was held this afternoon at the Syracuse House, in relation to this melancholy event.
The Hon. H. Baldwin was called to the Chair, and C. M. Brosnan, Esq. appointed Secretary.
The meeting was briefly, but feelingly addressed by the Chairman and D. D. Hillis, Esq., J. F. Sabine and T. T. Davis, Esquires, reported the following resolutions, which were adopted:
Resolved, That in the death of our late brother, George W. Noxon, the profession has lost a member, distinguished alike for the excellence of his private character, as far his ability, integrity, and honorable conduct as a lawyer.
Resolved, That as men and members of the profession with which he was connected, we deeply mourn an event which has so suddenly deprived us of the society of one who was an ornament to both social and professional circles.
Resolved, That we must respectfully tender to the widow and friends of the deceased, our heartfelt sympathy and condolence; and assure them that their deep sorrow for a calamity so great and so sudden, is shared by us all.
Resolved, That we will attend the funeral of the deceased to-morrow at 10 o'clock.
The proceedings were then ordered to be published, and a copy presented to the family of the deceased.
