U.S. Congressman. Immigrating to the United States, in 1832, he graduated from the Cincinnati Law School, in 1846, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in London, Ohio. He was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives, (1858-59) and served in the Ohio State Senate, (1860-61). In 1861, he was elected as a Unionist to the Thirty-seventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Thomas Corwin, serving until 1863. After leaving office, he continued the practice of law until his death.
