Son of William Jackson Baliles & first wife, Frances Ann Weaver, who were married on Feb 4, 1846, in Gilmer Co, GA.

The date of birth shown on William's gravestone is believed to be incorrect. William is age 3 in 1850 census; age 12 in 1860; age 22 in 1870, and age 32 in 1880.

William was married twice. His first marriage was to Delilah Cochran on Nov 7, 1867, Gilmer Co, GA. They had nine children & lived in Polk Co, TN for several years before divorcing in 1909.

William returned to Gilmer Co, GA; and on Mar 7, 1911, he & Martha Jane Long were married in Gilmer Co. They did not have any children.

William was reportedly a doctor & dentist who practiced medicine in north Georgia; however, no documentation of medical training has been found.

After the death of his mother in Jan 1865, William enlisted in the Union Army, Company H, 5th Regiment Tennessee Mounted Infantry at Nashville on Feb 1, 1865. He was mustered in & reported for duty on Feb 8 1865 - and served only 5-1/2 months before being mustered out at Nashville on July 15, 1865.
