Pfc. Francis Ludecke Killed in Action

Humboldt, KS(AP). - Pfc. Francis Ludecke, age 27, was killed in action on Luzon on February 5,1945 according to a message received yesterday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ludecke, from the war department.

Pfc. Ludecke was born and raised in Humboldt and graduated from the high school in 1937.

He was a farmer before entering the service July 1, 1941. He served at Ft. Leonard Wood, Ft. Benning, Georgia, and Ft. Luis Obispo, Calif., before going to Hawaii. He has been in the Pacific area for 20 months and participated in the New Guinea campaign as well as the invasion of the Philippines. He was an infantryman.

He leaves his parents and a sister, Mrs. Frances Temmings, Chanute, KS.

Military Funeral For F. J. Ludecke
Humboldt, KS - Military funeral services were held here last Sunday afternoon for PFC Francis J. Ludecke who was killed in action on Luzon on February 5, 1945.

The services were conducted at the Presbyterian church under the auspices of the Alga Doty post of the American Legion. The Rev. Robert A. Kendall, pastor of the Methodist church, spoke words of consolation and read the Twenty Third Psalm. Music was provided by a vocal quartette cinsisting of Mrs. Elmer Harwood, Mrs. Vern Smith, Mark Ellis, and Louis Irwin. They were accompanied by Mrs. Lola Morgan on the organ. Flags were flown at half staff along Bridge street.

Pfc. Ludecke was born at Humboldt, Kansas and lived in this vicinity until he entered the military service on July 1, 1941.

After being stationed at various military posts in the United States he was sent to the Pacific and participated in the New Guinea campaign and the invasion of the Philippine Islands. It was there that he met death. He was 27 years old.

Many out of town relatives and friends attended the services. These included Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Vossler of Leavenworth, Vossler was with Pfc. Ludecke at the time of his death.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ludecke; and his sister, Mrs. Francis Timming.
