LAST WILL OF JOHN EDMUNDSON

In the name of God Amen, I, John Edmundson, of Elizabeth Township, Allegheny County, and. State of Pennsylvania, do make, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament, as follows to wit:

Item 1 : I will and direct that my just debts and funeral expenses be paid by my executors hereinafter named as soon as practical after my decease.

Item 2 : To my beloved wife Nancy, I give and bequeath all the ready money I may have in my possession or control at the time of my decease, also to her I give and devise the use of the whole farm in Elizabeth Town ship, adjoining lands of Alex. McClure, Joseph Lynch, John Penny and others, except the house and lot known as the "Kier House", for and during her natural life.

Item 3 : To my two sons, Alexander C. Edmundson and John W. Edmundson jointly, I give and devise my said farm in Elizabeth Township after the decease of their mother subject to certain contingencies hereinafter mentioned.

Item 4 : To my daughter Sarah, I give and bequeath my house and lot known as the ‘Kier House and lot', the line of which shall be the public road; and also all my personal property except money and bonds, and. also one horse now used on the farm and known as the "Jack Horse"; and in the case of the death of said horse before my will goes into effect, then she shall have another horse worth 15O.OO.

And further, the bonds of obligation which I hold against Mr. John Penny, I give and dispose of in the following manner to wit:

Item 1 : That falling due in April 1862, I give and devise to my wife Nancy.

Item 2 : To my daughter Sarah, I give and bequeath the four several bonds falling due as follows to wit: April 1, 1859, April 1, 1863, April 1, 1867, April 1, 1870.

Item 3 : To my son Alexander C., I give and bequeath the five several bonds falling due as follows to wit: April 1, 1860, April 1, 1864, April 1, 1869, April 1, 1871, April 1, 1871.

Item 4 : To my son John W., I give and bequeath the five several bonds falling due to wit: April 1, 1861, April 1, 1865, April 1, 1869, April 1, 1872, April 1, 1874.

Item 5 To my daughter Maria Calhoun, now residing in Jefferson County, Ohio, I give and bequeath the three several bonds falling due to wit: April 1, 1866, April 1, 1876, April 1, 1877.

Furthermore, I will and direct that in case the said John Penny, his heirs and legal representatives should fail and become insolvent, so that my daughter Sarah cannot realize the full amount of the said bonds herebefore bequeathed to her, then in case of such an event occurring, my two sons Alexander C. and John W. Edmundson, their heirs and legal representatives shall, out of the said farm, pay to her the sum of $1,000.00, share and share alike between them or their legal representatives.

Lastly: I do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my two beloved sons Alexander C. and John W. Edmundson executors and my beloved daughter Sarah executrix of my last will and testament and hereby revoking all former wills and testaments by me at anytime heretofore made and declare this only to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof, I, the said testator, have to this, my last will and testament set my hand and seal, the seventeenth day of May 1858.
