J. O. KIRBY ADA-Services for Judson Odus "J.O." Kirby, 89, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Free Will Baptist Church, Revs. Keith Burden, David Sutton and Ryan Humble will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home. Mr. Kirby died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at his home. He was born December 30, 1921 in the Walnut Grove Community, northwest of Ada to Walter A. and Eula Crow Kirby. He attended the Walnut Grove elementary school and graduated from Vanoss High School in 1940. He married Betty Jo Kite on August 8, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1988. He later married Beatrice Dudley on June 2, 1989 in Ada. His early employment was with Stafford Wholesale Distributor as a salesman and then as a life insurance agent with Home Security Life. He retired as an employee of the city of Ada. His association with the church began in early adulthood as a member of the Camp Ground Free Will Baptist Church and then for the last 51 years as an active member of the Ada First Free Will Baptist Church. He taught an adult Sunday School class for most of those years and was a deacon in the church for 60 years. Survivors include his wife Bea Kirby, of the home; two daughters, Brenda Kirby, Dallas, and Barbara Kirby Long and husband Johnnie of Altus; a granddaughter, Shelly Long, Austin, TX; two brothers, Johnny Kirby and wife Peggy, Ada and Jim Kirby and wife Joy, Rockwall, TX; three step daughters, Debbie Burden and husband Keith, Nashville, TN, Brenda Webb and husband Rodney, Moore, and Carla Dyer and husband Jimmy, Moore; seven step-grandchildren; and eleven step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty; an infant son, Larry; a brother Robert; three sisters, Myrtle Sutton, Mabel Jones and Melba Kirby. Bearers will be Gene Myers, James Mouser, Bud Estes, Wayne Rogers, Steve Turner and Robert Turner. Honorary bearers will be Curtis Hogue, Wilburn Bennett, Earl Collings, James Presley and Don Kerr. The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Capital Improvement Fund of the Ada First Free Will Baptist Church, 421 S. Ash, Ada, OK 74820; to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 NE 13th, Oklahoma City, OK 73104-5097; or to the charity of your choice.
