Had Been An Invalid Several Years And Became Worse 6 Weeks Ago —Lived Near Novelty.

C. S. Ballinger, 83 years old, died Sunday at his home north of Novelty, after having been an invalid and confined to his home the last few years. He became worse six weeks ago and never rallied.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Mt. Carmel Church south of Edina by the Rev. O. B. Hobbs of Novelty. Burial was here in Linville cemetery. Ten grandchildren were flower carriers.
His widow survives with five children, Judge James M. Ballinger, Cicero Ballinger and Mrs. Alzada Moore, all of Knox County, and Joseph Ballinger of Hannibal and Mrs. Lula Melson of Clarence. Besides these Mr. Ballinger leaves thirteen grandchildren.
Columbus Singleton Ballinger, a son of James and Rebecka Ballinger, was born on a farm near Philadelphia, Mo., July [sic] 2, 1843. He was married to Maria Louese Gibbons in 1868, and they were the parents of eight children, three of whom died in infancy.
Mr. Ballinger united with the Baptist Church at Philadelphia when 17 years old, and after moving to Knox County joined the Methodist Church at Mt. Carmel, of which church he continued a member.
