Mrs. Elva Alice Anderson Belcher, 102, of Statesboro, passed away May 20, 2011, at the Brown's Health & Rehabilitation Home in Statesboro. She was born in Bulloch County, Ga., on September 17, 1908,to the late John Lawson and Ida Nesmith Anderson of Nevils. Mrs. Belcher was married to the late Robbie Belcher for over 50 years.
She was a homemaker in the Leefield Community most of her adult life, where she was a member of the Leefield Baptist Church. Mrs. Belcher was a generous, hardworking, warm, caring and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was an avid gardener, loved making crocheted gifts for everyone and one of her main objectives in life was to make sure everyone was fed well. She was known throughout the community for her famous chocolate layer cake.
Mrs. Belcher is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Ray Lanier of Cary, N.C., and Helen and Pete Leonard of Mt. Airy, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Vicki Belcher of Pembroke, Ga.; eight grandchildren and spouses, Vonda and David Fields of Orlando, Fla., Christy and Palmer Miles of Winter Park, Fla., Hal and Sarah Lanier of Cumming, Ga., Trey and Tina Leonard of Mt. Airy, N.C., Justin and Faith Belcher of Valrico, Fla., Alyssa Belcher of Statesboro, Ga., Becki and Will Mallard of Concord, N.C., and Whitney Lanier of Cary, N.C.; eight great-grandchildren, Garret, Connor and Morgan Fields of Orlando, Fla., John Palmer and Robbie Miles of Winter Park, Fla., Lincoln and Cardyn Belcher of Valrico, Fla. and Rundle Lanier of Cumming, Ga.; two sisters, Hazel Stanley and Vivian Mobley, both of Savannah, Ga.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dayton and Eunice Anderson of Columbia, S.C., Quinton and Derita Anderson of Brooklet, Ga. and Talmadge and Blanche Anderson of Richmond Hill, Ga.
Mrs. Belcher was preceded in death by her husband, Robbie Belcher; a daughter, Mary Alice Hodges; an infant son, her parents, sisters, Birdye Cartee and Clisty Anderson; and brothers, Rufus Anderson, Olen Anderson and J.S. Anderson.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 22, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Storman Glass officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Corinth-Leefield Cemetery near Brooklet, Ga.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Corinth-Leefield Cemetery Fund, c/o Mr. Dean Jones, 530 Franklin K. Lane, Brooklet, GA 30415; or Odyssey Hospice, 810 Town Park Drive, Suite 100, Rincon, GA 31326,in lieu of flowers.
