John Thomas Smart was born February 18, 1911 at Wilbur, Washington. At the age of two years he moved with his parents to Orient, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He died October 16, 1946, at Yutan, Nebraska, aged 35 years, 7 months, and 25 days.
He was united in marriage to Ruth Moore of Talmage, Iowa, on October 7, 1941. To this union were born three children, of which one, Larry Lee, has preceded him in death at the age of six months on march 31, 1940.
He leaves to mourn his loo his wife, Ruth; his son, Glen Grant; his daughter, Judith Marie; his mother, Mrs. Catherine Smart, of Elliott, Iowa; his brothers, William, Arthur and Harold of Truro, Iowa; Sam of Yutan, Nebr, and Pfc James of Orlando Florida; his sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Talent, and Mrs. Iva Reynolds of San Francisco, Calif. Mrs. Eva Schultz of Yutan, Nebr; Mrs. Dorothy Jensen of Elliott and Catherine of Omaha; also other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, October 22, 1946, at the boyd Roland Funeral Home in Corning at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev V.A. Bloomquist. Music was by Mrs. Russell Roland and John Riegel, accompanied by Mrs. Lyle Posten. Pall bearers were Roy Cattlett, John Cattlett, Harry Pell, Lester Talent, Pearl Packenham and Charles Schaffer. Interment was made in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
