 When I was 6 years old, I was at a celebration in Clovis. Governor Mecham was present. My dog got away from me so I gave chase between and around the legs of the adults in the crowd. My shoe came untied, I caught my dog and pulled the pant leg of a man and asked him if he would hold my dog while I tied my shoe. The man took my dog and waited for me. My mother caught up to me, took the dog from the man and said "I am so sorry Mr. Governor my son has bothered you". Governor Mecham was truly a Gentleman and a Patriot. I'm afraid, we no longer have men with this type of mettle among us. We were truly blessed by his presence amoung us.- Wayne Donham Added: Jun. 21, 2011 |
