Mrs. Ezekiel A. Cross
Mrs. Ezekiel A. Cross, 70, of Harwood Hill, the former Inez Montgomery, lifelong resident of this area, died this morning at Putnam Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient only a few days following a fall at her home.
The daughter of the late Harry and Julia (Buck) Montgomery, she was born in Shaftsbury Dec. 20, 1900. Her education had been received in Shaftsbury schools and she had also attended Bennington High School. Before her marriage, she had been employed at the H.T. Cushman Mfg. Co. in North Bennington and at the Eagle Square Mfg. Co. in Shaftsbury.
Mr. and Mrs. Cross were married Oct. 2, 1920 at the North Bennington Congregational parsonage by the Rev. William Hamlin. They were honored on their golden wedding anniversary last October as 300 friends and relatives gathered for a celebration in Shaftsbury.
Mrs. Cross was a member of the Bennington First United Methodist Church. Although she was interested in the projects of many organizations, her primary concern was her home and family.
Survivors are two sons, Carroll Cross of Bennington and Ezekiel Cross Jr. of Shaftsbury; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Frieda) Pello, III of Bennington; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Her sister, Mrs. Ruby M. Harrington of Shaftsbury, died last week. Mrs. Cross was the last surviving member of the family.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 pm in the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the family plot in Center Shaftsbury.
