Mr. Stewart was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Devils Lake. He grew up and graduated from high school in Southam. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy. After his military discharge he returned to Southam and attended Lake Region Junior College, Devils Lake. He married Maxine Oliver in 1943. She died in 1958. He worked at the Southam Elevator Co., and later purchased the elevator. He retired in 1986. On Jan. 26, 1986, he married Shirley Kramer in Fargo.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Barry (Sandy), Bruce, both Southam; a stepson, Robert (Betsy) Kramer, Mountclair, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Laura (Auddie) Cox, Colorado Springs, Colo.; six sisters, Estella Trueblood, Sacramento, Calif., Lillian (Merle) Lockwood, Vista, Calif., Eva Lynch, Del Rapids, S.D., Betty (John) Pehkonen, Milwaukee, Doris (Wendy) Lein, Poulsbo, Wash., Wilma (Don) Adam, Drake, N.D.; three grandchildren and 10 stepgrandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday from 9-9, with a prayer service at 7, and Friday from 9-11 in Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before the funeral in the church.
Funeral: Friday at 2 in Westminster Presbyterian Church, Devils Lake.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.
