BOYKINS - Pearl Daisy Drake Carter, 88, passed away May 7, 2007, at Southampton Memorial Hospital. A native of Boykins, she was the last surviving child of the late Abner W. and Minnie Outland Drake. She was a member of Boykins Baptist Church and lived most of her life on or near the family farm near Boykins. A farmer's wife, she was also retired from Aster Nut Products.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, J. Paul Carter Jr. and wife Betty of Franklin; a son-in-law, Leo Johnson of Boykins; two grandchildren, Denise Edwards of Chesapeake and David Carter and wife Linda of Franklin; one great-granddaughter, Victoria Carter; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carter was predeceased by her husband, James Paul Carter; her daughter, Jo Ann Johnson; four brothers and four sisters.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Beechwood Cemetery. Viewing for Mrs. Carter will be Thursday at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel. The family suggests memorials be made to Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 347, Boykins, VA 23827.
