US Congressman. Born in McArthur, Ohio, he was the father of US Congressman Harold Kile Claypool. He graduated from the normal school of Lebanon, in 1880, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1882 and commenced to practice law in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was prosecuting attorney of Ross County (1899-1903) and was probate judge of the Ross County, (1905-10). In 1911, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-second and Sixty-third Congresses, serving until an unsuccessful candidate for re-election, he resumed the pactice of law until his death at age 61 in Columbus, Ohio.
